Where they are cultivated Our fields are located at a unique place Our artichokes are cultivated since decades at the fertile lands of Llano de Zafarraya, Granada’s province. The plain is a valley totally closed, an area of 10 kms of length and 3.5 kms of width. Its geological formation is called polje. It consist of a kind of relief characterized for the rocks which form it, most of them calcareous rocks. Poljes are vast and closed depressions, with a flat bottom, abundant in Bosnia-Herzegovina, where the name polje is from. Under the plain there is a whole net of limestone caves, pits and currents underground, because of being an endorheic plain (it means that the water is drained itself in the same place). These series of peculiarities, adding the abundant water, fertile lands and damp climate, cause that Llano de Zafarraya is the perfect location for the cultivation of vegetables.
